Emirates Team New Zealand and Sweden's Artemis Racing missed both practice races for the latest round of the America's Cup World Series in Gothenburg - but for very different reasons.
The Kiwi crew suffered a minor breakdown to their AC45F during the pre-race tune up, choosing to abandon the two planned races to inspect the damage to the under rigging rather than risk further issues.
“Obviously we are really disappointed to miss the practice racing" said skipper Glenn Ashby.
"We need all the time we can get on the water at the moment, but I guess as a consolation the issue occurred today and not tomorrow when there are vital points at stake.”
It was also not smooth sailing for Artemis, who capsized in front of their home fans.
"That's what these boats are like" said skipper Nathan Outteridge.
"We're all out there pushing hard and that's what happens when you push too much."
All onboard were safe and the boat only suffered minimal damage, and the Swedes are not expected to miss the two races scheduled tonight (Saturday NZT).
Land Rover BAR and Cup defenders Oracle Team USA each won a practice race, the British crew lead the series after the opening regatta in Plymouth with Team NZ second.
