Mick Schumacher, the 16-year-old son of seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher, has finished ninth then sixth on his debut at Germany's famous Nuerburgring circuit in the Formula Four series.

Watched by his mother Corinna and sister Gina, while his uncle Ralf Schumacher, an ex-Formula One driver, was a commentator for German television, Mick put in a good performance in Saturday's two races.

Both were won by 18-year-old Marvin Dienst, who has taken the overall lead in the Formula Four drivers' championships after 14 of the season's 24 races.

Because of Formula Four's reversed-grid regulation, Schumacher junior, who drives for the Dutch team Van Amersfoort Racing, will start the third race on Sunday from the front row.

He has a good chance to claim another Formula Four win to add to his debut victory at Oschersleben, Germany, at the start of the season in April.

Schumacher moved up to 13th overall in the drivers' table with 10 races left on his first season in Formula Four after a successful career on the go-karting circuit.

Michael Schumacher is still recovering at home in Switzerland having spent six months last year in an artificial coma following a serious head injury he suffered in a skiing accident in December 2013.
