In just over a month the Black Caps have arguably their best chance of winning a Test series in Australia in 30 years.

New Zealand's only won one Test there since Sir Richard Hadlee starred in the 1985 series victory, but that one win four years ago means they're not scared of the Aussies.

The new-look Black Caps pace attack had been born and it was one of the first signs that the team was on the rise.

That, combined with Australia's recent Ashes failure, means New Zealand has a strong chance of only their second series win over the Tasman.

The scenario reminds Sir Richard of the 1985 win, when the Aussies were rebuilding under Allan Border.

He says there's no better time to strike.

"We've got a very good pace attack, we've got a very good batting line-up and a very good team," he says. "The brand of cricket we've played in the last couple of years is very exciting, and it's winning cricket."
