All Blacks captain Richie McCaw has totally ruled out a post-rugby career in politics, as suggested by Prime Minister John Key.
Asked by 3 News political editor Patrick Gower if he was interested in politics, McCaw replied: "It's not me."
"Someone said to me, and probably quite right, you end up going from most people enjoying what you do to probably half the country. So you cut your supporters in half. That's probably not a good idea."
Mr Key made the suggestion on the Paul Henry programme, saying he saw the "Richie for Prime Minister" banner at Eden Park during the Bledisloe Cup Test.
"I thought, well, not a bad option really".
But McCaw says there are "other things" he wants to do in his rugby retirement.
The All Blacks captain was at the Beehive for last night's Rugby World Cup squad announcement.
