Warriors recruit Sam Tomkins has been labelled a flop by NRL legend Peter Sterling.
The English fullback is on a contract thought to be worth $1 million dollars a year but has only scored one try from 13 games this year.
After a high-profile move from Super League's Wigan ahead of the 2014 NRL season, Sterling said Tomkins failed to live up to the hype.
"He came out with a lot of promise and just never really lived up to it," Sterling said on his radio show.
"It may be something to do with the way fullbacks gets hit in the modern game today, but I've gotta say that James Tedesco and the like aren't that big.
"It may well be to do with the side that he played with as well, the Warriors.
"He never kicked on from that [a solid first season] so to answer the question, I thought he was disappointing in the NRL."
He is expected to miss the final game of the season against the Bulldogs with a knee injury, a recurring ailment that has seen him miss multiple games this season.
Warriors assistant coach Andrew Webster doesn't expect Tomkins to take the field for the club again.
"Sam's battled that knee for a while. We'll probably give him every chance [to play] but it's looking like unfortunately Sam might have played his last game for the Warriors which I'm sure he's disappointed with and we're disappointed as well," Webster said.
Tomkins was signed on a three-year deal to the Warriors but was granted an early release to re-sign with Wigan next year.
