Silver Ferns lament 'frustrating' loss

It's an all too familiar routine for the Silver Ferns - heading to a new city hoping for a better result.

"Yeah it is frustrating but we have to take the small wins that we do get and I know it will come. We've worked really hard over the last week and I think we've just got to keep plugging away," said Ferns goal attack Bailey Mes.

There were moments of absolute greatness from the Kiwis last night and certainly no shortage of carnage but down the stretch, when it counted most, the Ferns fell away.

After leading by four goals early on, they slumped to a 10-goal margin when the final whistle blew.

"That's a reflection of the last five minutes. We threw one ball away, missed two shot, didn't get the rebound so that's six goals, and [we were] chasing [four goals] with five minutes to go," Silver Ferns coach Waimarama Taumaunu said.

So with the Constellation Cup all but Australia's now, their coach Lisa Alexander took the opportunity to call out their prime minister.

"Malcolm Turnbull, come and watch our Test match while we are in Australia, I mean, Prime minister John Key is a big supporter of the Silver Ferns, we expect the same from our Prime Minister and we need him at one of our Test matches," Alexander joked.

The Ferns aren't after any more support, just wanting to break their 10 straight Constellation Cup match losing streak.
