World tennis No.1 Novak Djokovic has battled through to the quarter finals of the Australian Open.

The Serb didn't just face a tough four-and-a-half-hour-long challenge from Frenchman Gilles Simon; he then copped it from a fan.

Djokovic was under pressure in the fourth round, most of it from himself.

There were 100 unforced errors from the top seed, who at times struggled against a determined Simon.

Simon won a 32-shot rally in the second set tie break, and then the set. It was the first Djokovic had lost since November's Paris Masters.

The pair traded sets before the Serb claimed the match with a 6-3 win in the fifth.

He'll now face Kei Nishikori in the quarters, helped by some advice from the crowd to stop playing drop shots.
