Hurricanes flanker Ardie Savea has a big year ahead.

Not only is he preparing for another Super Rugby campaign, he's also just gone into camp with the All Blacks Sevens as Gordon Tietjens' men start their push towards Rio later this year.

However, if Savea wasn't a professional rugby player he says fashion would be a likely career path.

"I like colours, so anything that stands out it's quite good for me, you know. Brown boy, bright colours stand out on you," Savea said.

He's even had a go at designing, last year creating a Wellington Lions charity jersey in memory of his grandmother.

But Savea will turn fashion critic this weekend when he judges the Lady of the Carnival fashion competition at the Wellington Cup Carnival.

Savea's had few problems standing out on the field. The 22-year-old went into camp with the Sevens squad today but he will be allowed the day off on Saturday to fulfil his judging duties.

He's looking forward to his Sevens homecoming in Wellington next weekend.

"It's quite nerve-wracking, the last time I was there was about four years ago but it should be good. I've seen some familiar faces and I'm not looking forward to trainings," Savea joked.

Savea will likely line up in the capital alongside Sonny Bill Williams, when the final tournament squad is named on Monday, but unlike Williams, who will only play Sevens this year, Savea has chosen to continue with Super Rugby while chasing his Olympic dream with Sevens. It's a challenge he says he's up for.

"For me, it's just about keeping my body right and communicating well between Sevens and 15s and making sure we get the best out of both worlds," Savea said.

Savea just needs to remember to bring the right set of boots.
