The West Indies Under-19 cricket team has been slammed after reaching the World Cup quarterfinals in controversial fashion.

The West Indies beat Zimbabwe by two runs in Bangladesh after bowler Keemo Paul took the 10th wicket with a 'Mankad'.

The dismissal, named after Indian bowler Vinoo Mankad, involves removing the bails of the batsman not facing the delivery and has long been considered un-sportsmanlike by many in the cricket fraternity, despite being legal.

The West Indies declined to remove their appeal when asked by the umpire.

Black Caps great Stephen Fleming was quick to condemn the youngsters along with England batsman Jos Buttler.

"I have debriefed the boys in the dressing room and they were all crying. We have explained that technically the run-out is legal. We left it to the last man and we should not have done that. It was a hard lesson and they have learnt it the hard way," Mangongo said.
