Dunedin's University Oval is set for a $750,000 upgrade with renovations planned to increase the ground's capacity.
The move is in response to New Zealand Cricket's (NZC) requirement for international venues around the country to meet a minimum 6000 capacity.
"The sporting public will be wowed with the final product," said Otago chief executive Mike Coggan.
"Aesthetically, we will have a significantly enhanced facility with a 70% increased capacity. We will certainly give NZC every reason to keep bringing international cricket to Dunedin."
A 100m retaining wall will be built along the western side of the ground to create seating for over 3000 fans, while 10,000 cubic metres of soil will be added to the embankments.
After working closely with the Dunedin City Council, the eight-week project is set to start in the coming week.
