Pole vaulter Eliza McCartney is hoping she got over her big tournament nerves after finishing fifth in her first senior tournament.
The 19-year-old was happy with her placing at the World Indoor Athletic Championships in Portland, United States, but said she was happy to get it out of the way and move on.
"The first time I saw them it was really weird, I've only ever seen them on television so it was a little bit of 'oh my gosh' type moment out there," McCartney laughed. "It's good to get that out of the way."
"It was quite different at junior level I was more on the top end, so competing [at senior level] is really different. You've got to really fight to get a good place and stick in there. So it was different, but I really loved it out there."
McCartney said nerves got the best of her at times, but knows it's something she can overcome.
"I didn't do as technically well jumping as I would have hoped for, but I'm not going to complain with 5th place.
"I think the nerves did get to me a little bit, I had jelly legs on a few runs."
