Veteran UK middleweight Michael Bisping has stepped in as a replacement and will fight middleweight champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 next month.

Bisping replaces former champion, Chris Weidman , who was forced out of his title rematch with champion Rockhold on Wednesday due to a neck injury.

UFC President Dana White today announced the change while on ESPN’s SportsCenter.

The UFC boss said the title shot would have gone to Ronaldo Souza , but the Brazilian is facing knee surgery following a first-round TKO over Vitor Belfort this past weekend at UFC 198.

Rockhold and Bisping first fought in 2014. Rockhold earned a second round submission victory in that meeting, and Bisping has rebounded with three consecutive wins,  including one over former champion Anderson Silva in February, to climb back into title contention.
