Warriors hooker Issac Luke is eager to get back to his Taranaki roots this weekend as his side travels to New Plymouth to take on the Canberra Raiders, for more than one reason.
"Anything goes after the game," said Luke. "They've got a pretty good pie shop down there."
Restored to the starting line-up after occupying a bench role for the past couple of outings, Luke was emphatic when describing exactly what the game meant to the region.
"It's definitely a special occasion, not only for myself but for the group and the community," explained the 28-year-old.
Returning to New Zealand shores was homecoming enough for the Hawera product, until CEO Jim Doyle hinted at the potential for a match in the area.
"Jim said he was talking about taking games around New Zealand. Then he threw out Taranaki and I had a big cheesey smile on my face."
In regards to his own form, Luke is positive about the strides forward he's been making in recent weeks and is certainly eyeing this game as one in which he plans to shine.
"Every week's been a slight move in progress."
"But to be able to play in front of old friends, my old community, my family, I really have to show why I've come home."
