The Penrith Panthers have announced that playmaker Jamie Soward has been released from the remainder of his contract.
Penrith Panthers can confirm playmaker Jamie Soward has been immediately released from the remainder of his contract with the club.
Soward played in 53 games for the Panthers since arriving in 2015. Soward has also played for the Roosters and the Dragons who he won a championship with back in 2010.
"Jamie feels the time is now right to pursue an opportunity to finish his career in England,” Panthers Executive General Manager Phil Gould AM said.
"How playing careers begin and end is not an exact science but he has recognised there are a number of emerging talents at the club who deserve the chance to progress.
“Jamie has been wonderful for the Panthers and has done everything we have ever asked of him. He has been a leader, on and off the field, and played a key role in the development of our younger players.
“If Jamie sees a future for himself in coaching, once his playing days have come to an end, it is my intention that he will begin that coaching career here at the Panthers.”
Soward’s position in the Panthers squad has been under threat with the rise of former Panthers coach Ivan Cleary's son Nathan Clearly and Te Marire Martin preforming well with their chances they have been given.
Soward has tweeted that he returning the London Broncos. Soward played in nine games for the club back in 2013 scoring five tries and kicking 24 goals. The Broncos are currently in the Kingstone Press Championship which is England's second tier rugby league competition.
