UFC legend Dan Henderson has requested a Middleweight title fight with newly crowned champion Michael Bisping as his fighting swansong.

MMA Weekly editor Erik Fontanez has reported that Henderson's camp have formally asked for the first crack at Bisping.

The 46 fight veteran was believed to have fought his last battle on Sunday when he knocked out Hector Lombard at UFC 199.

Henderson alluded to impending retirement in his post-fight interview when he said he could "be persuaded" by UFC president Dana White if he received an office job with the company.

But it appears that that the former Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion would like another shot at Bisping.

The two fought each other on the historic UFC 100 card in 2009 with Henderson securing a brutal second round knockout, and a rematch has often been rumoured but never set in stone.

It would be a fitting finale for the 45-year-old American who has twice fought for UFC gold, coming up short against Anderson Silva and Quinton Jackson respectively.

Bispings next move remains unclear after his decisive finish over Luke Rockhold on Sunday (NZT), a rematch would seem unlikely, and with the next two contenders, Chris Weidman and Ronaldo Souza both on the shelf with injuries, Henderson would be a worthy candidate.

White is yet to comment on Bisping's first title defence, but was very complementary of Henderson's UFC 199 performance and was happy to leave any retirement decision in the the American's hands.

Only time will tell if he grants the UFC veteran a dream conclusion to his illustrious career.
