The New Zealand men's pursuit team has finished fourth at the Rio Olympics.

The team of Piet Bulling, Aaron Gate, Dylan Kennett and Regan Gough were no match for Denmark, finishing almost three clear seconds behind.

Denmark claimed bronze with a time of 3:53:789, while New Zealand finished fourth with a 3:56:753

The Danes led by 1.298 seconds after 1000m and extended the margin at every kilometre mark.

The Kiwis, who qualified fourth, were earlier beaten by a world record-breaking ride from Great Britain in round one.

The British combination of Steven Burke, Ed Clancy, Owain Doull and Bradley Wiggins clocked three minutes 50.570 seconds, taking more than a second off their own world record set at the London Olympics.

Great Britain would go on to beat Australia in the gold medal race.
