Lydia Ko has joined a number of Olympic stars in being short-listed for an international sports award in the United States.

Ko is among 10 nominees for the American Women's Sports Foundation's Sportswoman of the Year Awards.

She won two major titles and an Olympic silver medal during the judging period, which ended on August 31.

It means she is up against a number of world class athletes who shone in Rio, including two other high-profile 19-year-olds in Americans Simone Biles (gymnastics) and Katie Ledecky (swimming).

Other contenders include Olympic champion sprinter Elaine Thompson of Jamaica and US tennis great Serena Williams, who won last year's award.

The winner is announced on October 19.
