Former UFC Bantamweight champion Miesha Tate has shocked the UFC world and has announced her retirement following her unanimous decision loss to Raquel Pennington at UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

In a one-sided fight, Pennington completely outclassed Tate in the octagon, which handed Pennington her ninth victory in UFC and led Tate to the decision to retire.

It has been a crazy year for Tate. She won the Bantamweight belt in March when she submitted Holly Holm in the final round of UFC 196. She followed that up with a loss to Brazilian fighter Amanda Nunues at UFC 200 in July.

This was Tate's first fight since losing to Nunes where she suffered a broken nose during the fight.

Tate admitted post-fight that "it was not her time anymore".

"I just had a lot more to give and I couldn't pull it out of myself. It's been a long time; I've taken a lot of punishment.

"I love you guys, but this is it for me."

Tate will retire with an 18-7 record, with a career of more than 10 years in mixed martial arts, and will go down as one of the best woman UFC fighters in history.
