Two weeks after making history by becoming the first fighter in UFC history to hold championship belts in two divisions simultaneously, Conor McGregor has been forced to relinquish his featherweight title.
The move was made by the UFC as it needed a new main event for UFC 206 in Toronto after Daniel Cormier had to pull out of the main event due to a groin injury. That forced the UFC to promote Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis to the main event.
The fight will be for the interim featherweight title fight. The winner of the five-round bout will then have to face Jose Aldo who has been promoted to the division's full, undisputed champion.
McGregor opted to keep the lightweight belt he won 14 days ago at UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden in New York after knocking Eddie Alvarez out in the second round.
