An English cricketer has had to chase more than the ball in the final of a tournament for people with disabilities in Dubai after his artificial leg flew off in a fielding manoeuvre.
Liam Thomas was fielding at deep square leg in the match against Pakistan last week when the ball was hit solidly in his direction.
Making good time to the ball, Thomas cut it off with a dive before his artificial leg flew off.
He then had to limp to retrieve the ball before flinging it back into the wicket-keeper in a spectacular feat of physical strength.
"It just happened, really. I was sprinting for the ball, put my hand out, hit the deck hard and the next thing I know I stood up and had no leg," he said.
"I didn't know whether to grab the leg or get the ball in. I decided to go for the ball."
Thomas blamed the Dubai heat for expanding the leg's socket which caused it to loosen.
