Two-time World Cup winning centre Ma'a Nonu is close to signing a one-year contract extension with Toulon according to reports.

The 34-year-old left New Zealand at the end of the 2015 Rugby World Cup to play for Toulon in France's Top 14 competition where he is earning approximately NZ$1.1 million per season.

Reports coming out of France suggest that Nonu will play on after the end of his current contract when it expires in June 2017 with Toulon boss Mourad Boudjellal confirming the signing.

"We agreed to the oral, we just have to write it. If everything goes well, we will announce it quickly," Boudjellal is quoted as telling reporters.

Nonu hasn't particularly set the Northern Hemisphere on fire, scoring just four tries in 22 appearances across all competitions in the 2015/16 season.

In the 2016/17 season, Nonu has just one try in 14 appearances across all competitions.
