Jordie Barrett is looking forward to be a part of the Hurricanes culture for the up and coming Super Rugby season.

The lanky utility has moved from Canterbury to be closer to home, and will link up with older brother Beauden Barrett.

Speaking to RadioLIVE's Saturday Sport, Jordie said moving to the capital was the best decision for his future.

"There was an offer from the Crusaders, but I decided on what was best for me and my future, so I decided to head north and join the Hurricanes," Barrett told Brendon Telfer.

"I thought it was the right career path, squad and coaching make up, to push my career in a positive way."

Despite signing with the super rugby champions, Barrett might not see much time on the field as the Hurricanes have one of the most deadly back three in the competition, with Julian Savea and Cory Jane running the wings, while Nehe Milner-Skudder controls things at the back.

Barrett knows his game time will be limited, but he is looking forward to learning off the experienced outside backs which boasts a combined 115 Test matches for the All Blacks

"There is a huge amount of depth at the Hurricanes at the moment and I'm not fazed by that."

"There is good guys there to learn off who all have played international rugby. I'm not in any rush to play in the starting team."

Despite only being 19-years old, Barrett was selected to go on the All Blacks Northern tour last year as a traveling reserve.

Barrett did not take part in any of the All Blacks four matches, but got to train with the team, and learnt plenty from the players in the squad and what it takes to make it at the highest level.

"It was an awesome experience. I learnt heaps and enjoyed all my time."

"I was involved in training and game day routines and was basically like another squad member. I went along to all team meetings and event,

"I had meeting with Israel Dagg and Ben Smith and had a good chat to them to sit down and learn how they ticked.

"Apart from the apprentice tag, I was involved with everything."

Despite being brothers with Beauden, the pair have never played in the same team, something which Jordie is looking forward too.

"It will be a special moment to play with Beauden."

"I'm taking everything week by week but I'm looking forward to the opportunity."

Jordie will feature for the Hurricanes squad for this weekend's Brisbane Global Tens Tournament.

The Wellington franchise will be facing the Western Force and French Top 14 side Toulon in pool play.
