American Olympic gold medallist Ryan Crouser has made a huge statement at the Auckland Track Challenge, with a record breaking performance in the men's shot put.
The 24-year old heaved a huge 22.15 metres to set a new New Zealand all-comers record, throwing over the 22 metre mark four times.
Crouser was ecstatic with his display.
"This is probably my most consistent meet outside of the Olympics, and it's still really early for me so I'm really happy with where I'm at," Crouser said.
"I just knew I was stronger than last year but the technique isn't quite there, so right now I'm really surprised that I'm going 22m.
"That, for February, is unbelievable."
Rio bronze medallist Tom Walsh had his best meet of the early season, finishing second with a throw of 21.80, breaking the New Zealand residents record (best throw by a New Zealander in NZ) three times in the process.
Jacko Gill finished third with a throw of 20.94.
