Corey Webster has spent minimal time on the shelf after being released by the New Zealand Breakers earlier in the month, picked up by the Perth Wildcats for next season.

The acquisition is likely to be a shrewd one for both parties involved with the 28-year-old joining one of the competition's most successful clubs.

The Wildcats cantered to the 2016/17 NBL championship after beating the Illawarra Hawks 3-0 in a best-of-five final series.

And their success wasn't lost on Webster.

"I'm excited to start my new journey with the Wildcats, it's the best club in the NBL, it's great to be a part of that, hopefully I can come in and help them to another championship," Webster said.

"The Wildcats have been in the playoffs for 30+ years in a row and that's something very special and I feel honoured and grateful to be a part of that.

The Breakers refused to take up the option of an extra year for the shooting guard after a six-month period that saw Webster charged with assault after an altercation in a North Shore night spot.

He was then placed on the club's injury waiver list after opting to undergo hip surgery.
