In the wake of Raiders and Kiwis winger Jordan Rapana's onfield gesture against the Cowboys in the NRL on Saturday night, Newshub picked out five middle-finger moments when athletes decided to let the bird fly free.
5. Nick Kyrgios
It just wouldn't be a list of rude and offensive gestures without Nick Kyrgios. With a penchant for antagonizing opponents and offending views, he let the bird fly on the tennis court at the 2016 Tennis Dubai Championships.
For the record, he lost.
4. Will Power
Keeping with the Aussie theme, Indy Car driver Will Power showed a lack of it, unable to control his temper or his middle fingers.
Power gave officials the double finger, after spinning out on a rainy restart at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2011.
3. John Hopoate
He played over 200 games of NRL, State of Origin for New South Wales and two Tests for Australia, but there's one moment John Hopoate will be remembered most for on the field.
While it wasn't the middle finger salute, the opposing player sure stood to attention.
Hopoate was subsequently suspended for 12 weeks by the Tigers, before agreeing to leave the club.
2. Allen Prince
Allen Prince showed more than just a clean pair of heels, when he bolted down the sideline to open the scoring for the New Zealand Maori against the touring British Lions in 1993.
Unfortunately the camera cuts away just as Prince taunts the players chasing in vain, although former NZ Maori captain Jono Gibbes remembers the moment fondly.
"I watched the 1993 series when I was a young fella," said Gibbes.
"I remember Allen Prince running away at Athletic Park giving someone the raspberry in the Maori game."
1. Andrew Mehrtens
He's one of the greatest players to have pulled on the number 10 jersey for the All Blacks, but it's the finger he pulled to a vocal Loftus Versfeld crowd in South Africa that many will remember Andrew Mehrtens for, after he slotted a sweetly struck dropped goal to edge the Bulls in injury time.
