Breaking down the run to the NRL playoffs for the New Zealand Warriors

The Warriors' destiny is once again in their hands as they head into the final stretch of the season.

The New Zealand side are currently sitting in 10th on 18 competition points with eight games remaining - four points outside the NRL top eight.

The Warriors will have to win at least five of their last eight games to make the playoffs, and with a four-four split of home and away fixtures, they will have to win some road matches - something they have struggled to do this season.

The Warriors are a league-best 6-2 in home games (6-1 at Mt Smart) in 2017, but that record is overshadowed by a poor 1-7 away record.

Over the last five seasons, they have been in the exact same situation and have fallen short every time.

Their combined record during their last eight games of the season is 9-31, with winless streaks in 2012 and 2015.

Two-points against the Raiders, Panthers and Rabbitohs will be essential as all those sides are in the exact same boat as the Warriors - pushing for a finals spot.

The Warriors' depth will be tested as a number of starting players are battling injuries.

Ryan Hoffman and Albert Vete are out for an unknown period due to a broken foot and arm respectively, while Kieran Foran has battled a number of injuries during the season.

The Warriors will have to improve in a number of aspects, with their second-half attack being a concern.

They hold one of the best try-scoring records in the first half, crossing for 37 tries in the first 40 minutes, but that has not translated into the second-half, only scoring 18 tries in the final 40.

That is 220 first-half points, but only 97 in the second.

Meanwhile, 41 of the 60 tries the Warriors have conceded have been scored down the wings.

The Warriors have every chance to win enough matches to make the top eight, but if we are looking back at recent history, it has the making for another painful end to the season for Warriors fans.
