Kiwi driver Brendon Hartley has a point to prove, after securing a seat with Toro Rosso for the last three races of the Formula One season.

Toro Rosso team manager Graham Watson told Newshub: "It is 100 percent [true] Brendon will remain in the car for the rest of the season."

But Hartley has tried to dismiss those talks and is focused on racing in Mexico this weekend, his second Formula 1 outing, after making debuting last week at the US Grand Prix, where he finished 13th.

The Manawatu native hopes to build on that performance and is aiming for a top-10 finish this time.

"I'm looking forward to it," Hartley told RadioLIVE's Saturday sport. "I feel confident that I can improve on my first race and hopefully put all those experiences from Austin into practice in Mexico.

"If it was easy, everyone would be doing it, but I think it's a realistic goal. It's going to be tough, but if I can score a point in Mexico, that would call for some celebration.

"There is a potential opportunity, but I think it's important that I just focus one step at a time - Mexico Grand Prix this weekend."

The prospects of Hartley remaining with Toro Rosso beyond the year look promising, after IndyCar team Chip Ganassi Racing confirmed they had signed British driver Ed Jones to dive alongside Scott Dixon for 2018.

Hartley had been linked to Chip Ganassi Racing, before getting his Formula 1 opportunity.
