Kiwi trampolinist Dylan Schmidt earns silver medal at World Cup

Kiwi Dylan Schmidt's run of stellar form has continued with a second place finish at the Trampolining World Cup in Spain on Monday morning (NZT).

The 20-year-old Olympian recovered from some early troubles to jump five places to earn silver after earlier qualifying seventh for the eight-strong men’s individual final in Valladolid.

It's a career-best performance for Schmidt and comes just one-month out from what will be his biggest test since Rio – the World Championships in Bulgaria.

Despite knee and groin injuries hampering the majority of his 2017 campaign, Schmidt has bettered his seventh-placing at Rio at the last three World Cup events with sixth, fourth and second placings respectively.

The Auckland-based athlete burst on to the scene with a gold medal at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics before snaring a silver medal at last year's Olympic test event, to become New Zealand’s first Olympic trampolinist.
