All Blacks hooker Dane Coles is facing up to six months on the sidelines after rupturing his ACL during the All Blacks' 38-18 win over France on Sunday (NZ time).
The 30-year-old left the field a quarter of the way through the match against the French with an unknown injury, but scans have confirmed the worst.
"Dane Coles has done his ACL so he will be going home after the Lyon match," said Hansen.
"He will head home on Tuesday with the other boys that are heading home on Tuesday (local time).
"It is going to require an operation, and that will be sorted once he gets home."
He missed much of the Super Rugby season with Hurricanes and the British and Irish Lions series with ongoing concussion symptoms.
The All Blacks have three other hookers on the tour in Codie Taylor, Nathan Harris and rookie Asafo Aumua.
The All Blacks are currently in Lyon as they are preparing to face the French Barbarians on Wednesday (NZ time).
