Sir Richard Hadlee is recovering from bowel cancer surgery.
The New Zealand cricket icon had a routine colonoscopy last month which uncovered the disease.
An operation soon after was performed to remove the tumour which according to a statement from New Zealand Cricket went extremely well.
Sir Richard will undergo further treatment in the form of chemotherapy which will commence shortly and last for a few months.
It is expected that, in time, he will make a full recovery.
Sir Richard played 86 tests for New Zealand, taking a then world record 431 wickets.
