The Mainland Tactix are still alive in their quest to make the playoffs of the national netball premiership after squeezing past the Magic in Hamilton on Monday night.
It was a roller-coaster ride as both teams gave it everything in their final regular season match with the Tactix the more composed of the two in the final quarter to secure a 62-60 victory.
The injury-stricken Magic were simply playing for pride, trying to avoid finishing the season at the bottom of the ladder.
Goal shoot Ellie Bird was in great form under the hoop scoring 54 from 61, including two critical late goals.
The injection of goal attack Kate Beveridge when the Magic looked like they were on the front foot with only minutes left on the clock, made a major difference in the Tactix victory.
"I think at times we made it hard for ourselves with basic errors and not treausring the ball, " said Tactix captain Jane Watson. "But we got there in the end."
The Christchurch-based franchise will now hope the Central Pulse end the Northern Mystics' season in Wellington on Wednesday night to set up a clash with the Southern Steel, their first potential finals berth.
