Kevin Barry is a delighted man after confirming to Newshub the suggested official for Joseph Parker’s heavyweight fight with Dillian Whyte.
Joseph Parker's trainer told Newshub that the British Boxing Board of Control contacted him on Friday night (NZT), presenting the name Ian John-Lewis as their preferred official for the July 29 bout.
Lewis is a well respected boxing official with experience in refereeing big heavyweight fights.
Lewis recently had control of Whyte’s knockout win over Australian Lucas Browne.
Barry said it’s great news.
"The referee they are suggesting is one I am very happy about,” Barry told Brendan Telfer.
"Ian John-Lewis is probably the most accomplished referee that there is here in the UK.
"I think he is very respected and qualified referee and I am very happy to see him on the list of officials this morning."
Barry told Newshub that he hadn't had time to discuss the appointment with Duco boss David Higgins, but couldn’t see any detours in Team Parker signing off on Lewis.
