Parker vs Whyte: Is this the end for Kiwi heavyweight Joseph Parker?

Have we seen the last of former world heavyweight champion Joseph Parker in the boxing ring?

British rival Dereck Chisora thinks so, after watching the Kiwi slump to his second career loss against Dillian Whyte, hitting the canvas - twice - for the first time.

The defeat sees Parker slide down the world rankings, looking for fights to re-establish his credentials to challenge for a world belt.

But Chisora, who felled veteran Carlos Takam in spectacular fashion on the undercard, didn't expect to face Parker, as he continues his own rise up the ranks.

"I would consider fighting Parker, but I think Parker's got a lot of things he has to work on," he said. "I think Parker won't be fighting again.

"You think I'm talking crap, don't you?" Chisora quizzed Newshub's Lloyd Burr at the post-fight media conference. "He's a good man, but I don't think he'll be fighting again.

"He doesn't want to train anymore - he doesn't have the hunger, I saw that in there.

"I think when he made money from the [Anthony Joshua] fight, he kind of forgot about boxing basically – that's the same guy I saw in there.

"The things he did against AJ, he was still doing in there. He looked in great shape, but he didn't have it."

Parker suffered his first career defeat in April at the hands of British favourite Joshua, who added the WBO title to his IBF, WBA and IBO belts.

Chisora's comments could still be a kind of reverse-psychology attempt to lure Parker into the ring. They certainly didn't ring true to Whyte, who believed his fallen foe still had plenty left to fight for.

"Dereck Chisora talks a lot of rubbish," said Whyte, who has a long-running rivalry with Chisora. "Joseph Parker is young, he's strong, he's experienced and he's hungry.

"He got put down and got back up again. I believe he's still got a massive future in this division.

"Two decent wins and he's back in top contention again - I've got a lot of respect for him."
