Kieran Read's call for Super Rugby's conference system to be ditched has sparked fresh debate around the future of the competition.
The All Blacks captain told Radio Live that the competition needs to be sorted out before any further expansion is considered.
And Read's not alone in demanding action, with Chiefs halfback Brad Weber's making his opinion clear on Monday.
"I think it's unfair," Weber told Newshub.
Read wants the conference system gone, replaced by a round-robin format or something similar.
Weber's also backing future change, but believes there could be a more simple solution.
"It only needs small tweaks, it's not like we need a whole big revamp or anything. There are just some little things that could make it a more level playing field."
To illustrate his point, you only need to look at the Chiefs' current predicament.
They're fifth on the overall standings, but they have two points more than the third-placed Waratrahs and are equal with the second-placed Lions.
"If we've got more points than a team from the Aussie or South African conference, we should have a quarter-final. We should be rewarded for that."
Weber's coach Colin Cooper has been vocal about player welfare in the past and that's still his primary concern.
"I just want what's best for the athletes," Cooper said. "The travel factor, the derbies..."
One of the quirks of the current format is those derbies. A round robin could prevent Kiwi teams playing each other twice.
"I know how tough those derby matches are against the other Kiwis boys," said Crusaders centre Ryan Crotty. "It's almost like test footy."
Whatever the future holds, the voice of Kieran Read has been heard.
"He's an experienced All Black and Crusader, and his view probably counts for something," added Crusaders assistant Brad Mooar.
