New Zealand has won three silver medals in just an hour at the Canoe Sprint World Championships in Portugal.

Three-time Olympic medallist Lisa Carrington headed the run, finishing 0.73s behind Hungarian Danuta Kozak in the K1 500m final.

Soon after, a photo finish was required as Aimee Fisher, and Kayla Imrie lost out to Germany by 0.4s in the K2 200m final.

New Zealand's third silver came when Carrington and Caitlin Ryan missed out on the chance to defend their title as Hungary claimed gold, winning by  0.023s in the K2 500m final.

Monday (NZ time) is the final day of the event, and Carrington will be chasing two more medals in the K1 200m event and K4 500m along with Ryan, Fisher and Imrie.

Gisborne's Quaid Thompson will also compete in the K1 5000m men's final.
