Kiwi golfer Danny Lee has made an impressive start to the PGA Tour playoffs on Thursday (Friday NZ time).

Lee sits in a share of fifth, after a four-under 67, one shot behind leaders Jamie Lovemark, Kevin Tway, Vaughn Taylor and Sean O'Hair at the Ridgewood Championship Course in Paramus, New Jersey.

The Kiwi started on the back nine and birdied three of the first nine holes. He then eagled his 12th hole to share the lead, but he dropped a shot two holes later, with his only bogey of the round.

The 28-year-old Lee is tied for fourth with a group of 11 others at four-under, including world number one Dustin Johnson.

Tiger Woods is four shots behind at even par.

Lee, who headed in the tournament in 103rd place on the PGA Tour standings, needs to finish inside the top 100 to advance to the next round.
