NRL: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck's haka celebration ruffles Aussie PM's security

You'd think, by now, the Aussies would know a haka when they see one.

Apparently not, if the reaction to Roger Tuivasa-Sheck's Dally M Medal win was anything to go by.

The NZ Warriors skipper became the club's first winner of the coveted NRL Player of the Year award midweek, after helping his side to their first playoff appearance in seven years.

He received the trophy from Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison at a red-carpet ceremony on Wednesday.

Tuivasa-Sheck's success sparked an impromptu haka, led by Warriors teammates Issac Luke and Jazz Tevaga, that apparently caused alarm among the prime minister's security detail.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that bodyguards initially responded as if the haka was a terrorist attack and a floor manager dived for cover.

"That's just crazy," Tuivasa-Sheck said of the haka. "It was just a special moment for me.

"I've seen it done to a lot of special people and just to have Bully [Luke], a close friend of mine, do it for me, and the rest of the lads there… yeah, very grateful."

Not even the PM's security could prevent the Kiwis from stealing the show at the NRL's biggest night of the year.
