All Blacks vs Japan: Brand new jersey to debut in Tokyo test

  • 31/10/2018

The All Blacks have unveiled a revamped jersey ahead of their test against Japan and looming European tour.

The most striking new feature is the return of the white collar that hasn’t been seen since the 2013 season.

A select group of players - lead by captain Kieran Read - modelled the modified jersey at an event in Tokyo.

The design includes the use of seamless, woven "technology", as well as 3D logos and elastic cuffs. It's also 25 percent lighter than its predecessor.

"We continue to strive for a fit that mirrors a 'second skin', suitable for all athletes across the field," said Adidas vice president of specialist sports James Foster.

"We have undergone rigorous fit and performance testing with key athletes over the last 18 months, and we are confident that this release will deliver the best performance yet."

Read was one of a handful of players Adidas approached for feedback during the design process, admitting he had plenty of nostalgia associated with the traditional white collar.

"Memories of when I was little - the white collar that they used to wear throught the 90s," he told Newshub. "I was one of those babies.

"My dad got me one of those jerseys when I was younger, and I lived in it for a number of days and nights."

The jersey will make its on-field debut in the All Blacks test against Japan on Saturday.
