Australia were too strong for New Zealand in the opening Constellation Cup test in Brisbane, easing to a 57-42 win in Brisbane.
The hosts were in control throughout, as they claimed their eighth straight victory over the Ferns.
The visitors kept it close early, sitting at 10-10 in the first quarter, before they began to unravel.
They scored only six points in the second quarter, as Australia extended to as much as a 16-goal advantage, from which the Kiwis never recovered.
"There are clear areas when we are under the pressure as to what we need to do, we do it sporadically," said coach Noeline Taurua post-match.
"In reality, when you look at the scoreboard like that, it's definitely an uppercut, but also there's some really positive stuff and we've just got to keep the faith in what we're doing.
"The positives are we can only keep getting slapped and when are we going to learn? That's what it's all about."
Game Two of the series will take place in Townsville on Wednesday night.
