It's time for returning Kiwis Kevin Proctor and Jesse Bromwich to put the past behind them and focus on delivering for their country and their teammates, says New Zealand coach Michael Maguire.
The two forwards have been named to Maguire's 23-man test squad to take on Australia and England this month, putting them in line to make their first appearances on the international stage since being banned for cocaine use after last year's Anzac test in Canberra.
While Bromwich is still no guarantee to feature against the Australians as he and his wife await the birth of their first child, the new Kiwis coach said he's had a chance to speak with both players and had encouraged them to move on.
"They've just got to do their job and do that for the players," said Maguire.
"Enough has been said about those two and I think it's time now to give those boys some space to get that jersey back on."
The pair were allegedly caught on CCTV purchasing and snorting cocaine in Canberra in the early hours following the Kiwis 30-12 loss and were subsequently axed from New Zealand's World Cup squad and suspended by their respective NRL clubs.
"I've spoken to them a lot around that space and I've said it's about looking forward.
"I'm sure they're going to come in very keen and ready to go."
Bromwich was also stripped of his Kiwis captaincy, which saw Roger Tuivasa-Sheck step in to the role for the World Cup and the test against England in Denver in June.
The Dally M medal-winner has been ruled out of the Australia test with injury, and Maguire held off confirming his replacement until he has a chance to consult with his leadership group this week.
"I want to get the senior group together and I'm going to talk to those boys around that. I'll announce that through the week when we come together.
"I've got a few thoughts myself but I want to have a chat with the senior guys...ultimately it's about building the team around that group of players and I want opinions from those boys as well."
The former South Sydney Rabbitohs coach named five potential debutants in his group, including Roosters revelation Joseph Manu.
The 22-year-old from Hamilton played a key hand in Sunday's NRL Grand Final win over the Storm, and Maguire pointed to his rapid development this season as a sign of his enormous promise.
"Just look at how he's grown," Maguire noted. "A young player coming into a squad at first-grade level is one thing, but I think he's been able to step up right through the finals series.
"You saw the way he played last night, he's been able to take a step every single time he's been out on the big stage and that's what you're looking for."
The Kiwis begin their international schedule with a test against Australia on October 10 at Mt Smart Stadium.
