Former All Blacks centre Rene Ranger has signed with the Japan-based Sunwolves for the 2019 Super Rugby season.

The six-test international was one of four players unveiled as part of the Sunwolves squad for next year, as the Japanese side looks to improve under new head coach Tony Brown.

Ranger is currently playing for Northland in the Mitre 10 Cup and will bring plenty of Super Rugby experience to the team, having played more than 70 games for the Blues from 2009-13 and again in 2016.

Also joining Ranger at the Sunwolves is NZ-born Scotland international Phil Burleigh.

Burleigh has spent the last four years playing for Edinburgh, but is currently with Canterbury in the Mitre 10 Cup.

The 31-year-old previously played Super Rugby for the Chiefs in 2010 and with the Highlanders between 2012-2014.

The Sunwolves have also re-signed Georgian hooker Jaba Bregvadze and Kiwi first-five Hayden Parker. They kick off their season against the Sharks in February.
