England coach Eddie Jones is taking lots of positives from his side's one-point loss to the All Blacks at Twickenham on Sunday morning (NZ time).
England got out to a 15-point lead early in the game, before the world champs chased them down to claim a 16-15 win.
Jones was disappointed with the loss, but pleased with his team's progress.
"It was a fantastic game of rugby," said the Australian. "We're obviously devastated.
"You take the good with the bad. We'll learn a lot from that today.
"We had opportunities to win the game - we didn't take them, they did.
"Full credit to New Zealand, but it was a good rugby test match tussle that we are only going to improve from."
Jones took a philosophical approach to the controversial decision made by TMO Marius Jonker in the closing stages of the match, disallowing an England try upon review.
"Sometimes the game loves you and sometimes the game doesn't love you," he said. "You have got to accept that.
"If you stay in the fight long enough, the game will love you and we're prepared to stay in the fight. So, we will get some love from the game further down the track."
But the English boss said his team can be encouraged by such a display and it was an experience they'll take a lot of confidence from.
"It's a really good step forward because you benchmark yourself against New Zealand, he said.
"They are the best team in the world and we'll get a lot of reward for the work we've done."
England will now prepare to host Japan at Twickenham on November 17.
