Kiwi Cody Harris has secured a spot at the 2018/2019 World Darts Championship, qualifying via the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) Challenge Tour on Monday (NZ time).

Harris finished third on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit, behind Michael Barnard, who had already sealed his world championship return through the ProTour Order of Merit, and Ted Evetts, whose spot was already assured through the Development Tour.

This will be Harris' second time on the biggest stage in world darts, after making his Alexandra Palace debut last December.

He joins fellow New Zealander Tahuna Iriwin, who will make his 'Ally Pally' debut, after winning the New Zealand qualifier earlier in the year.

Despite qualifying for the world championship, Harris will be slightly disappointed with himself, as he just missed out on a two-year tour card with his third-place finish on the Order of Merit.

Throughout the year, competitors have participated in 20 events, with the two top winning tour cards.

Heading into the weekend with four events left, Harris was third and needed good results to climb up the ladder.

In Sunday's two events, he reaches the quarter-finals and qualified for his third final, which lifted him above Scotland's Cameron Menzies in the Order of Merit.

But two losses in the round of 64 on Monday, meant his fate was out of his hands, as Evetts won the final event to finish second overall and secure his tour card.

Finishing third out of more than 240 competitors through the year is still a massive achievement.

The third-place finish for Harris means he has free entry into the 2019 Q-School, where he can try to win a tour card in January.
