The Blackcaps have made a steady start to the decisive third test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi.
The New Zealanders battled through to 229/7 at stumps on Day One, with BJ Watling's determined knock of 42 off 180 balls anchoring the innings.
He combined with Kane Williamson to get the NZ effort back on track, after dangerous leg-spinner Yasir Shah's quick three wickets saw a semi-collapse at the top of the order.
