As the playoff-bound Wellington Phoenix scramble to retain players, promising defender Callan Elliot has extended his contract to the end of the 2020.
The Scottish-born Kiwi has enjoyed a breakout season, debuting in last month's 8-2 win over Central Coast Mariners and making another appearance three weeks later against Newcastle Jets.
Elliot, 19, has received his chance through a potentially season-ending injury to Louis Fenton, which has seen the youngster slip back from his traditional midfield role.
"I am overjoyed to have extended my stay here at the club, and I can't wait to kick on and improve," says the NZ U20 representative.
"Since signing here last year, I have improved every moment of being in this professional environment.
"I have made sure to listen to all the advice from the coaches and players to aid my development, so I will continue to listen and continue to improve."
Head coach Mark Rudan has already confirmed his departure, star goalie Filip Kurto also believed to leave next season, while strikers Roy Krishna and David Williams are off contract after this season.
"We knew what we were getting when [Elliot] came in and he impressed me even further with his willingness to learn and his ability to take things on board," says Rudan.
"I only see him improving further and becoming a strong part of this club moving forward."
