Football: Norway striker Erling Braut Håland scores hat-trick of hat-tricks in Honduras win

Norwegian striker Erling Braut Håland created history at the FIFA U20 World Cup, when he scored a 'hat-trick of hat-tricks' during his side's record-breaking win over Honduras.

Håland scored nine goals in a 12-0 win, which gives the Scandinavian nation an outside chance of reaching the round of 16 through the best-ranked third-place teams in the other groups.

He scored four times before halftime and then added another five afterwards, to break the previous record of six goals in a single game at the U20 World Cup.

Håland also had a goal ruled out by VAR.

The win was the largest in U20 World Cup history and his nine goals were the most ever in a single match by one player in the tournament.

"It annoys me a little bit that I didn't score with my last kick of the game," he told the Norwegian Football Association's website.

"I'll have to sit down and think a little bit about it, and maybe I'll work out what happened." Only Brazilian Adailton in 1997 and Argentina's Javier Saviola in 2001 have scored more goals in an entire tournament, with 10 and 11 goals respectively.

Håland had previously been held off the scoreboard in defeats to Uruguay and New Zealand, with Norway mustering just a single goal in the two contests.

The 18-year-old is the son of former English Premiership defender Alf-Inge Rasdal Håland and is currently contracted to Austrian club FC Red Bull Salzburg.
