  • 01/06/2019

In amongst the action of thousands of British football fans in Spain is a Kiwi who's made the 20 thousand kilometre trip.

Liverpool and Tottenham will do battle in Madrid for the right to be crowned European champions.

But with no guarantee to see the game itself, lifelong Spurs supporter Michael Blackman's as passionate as they come.

He's thrown caution to the wind and gone on the trip of a lifetime, all for the love of his favourite sporting side.

"It affects your weeks, it affects your personality, it affects every part of your life," Blackman told Newhsub.

It also affects your bank balance. Desperate to see Tottenham play in their first ever Champions League final, Blackman's flown to Madrid without a match ticket, or much of a plan.

"I bought a one way ticket to Madrid and I'll worry about everything else later," he said.

"I'm almost at the point of taking just a t-shirt and a toothbrush."

His Airbnb plans fell through so he's had to come up with a plan b for accommodation.

"About two weeks ago, I got a cryptic message form the host saying the room was no longer available but then told me I could gave it for NZ$4,000 a night."

He's taken up an offer of a night on a stranger's floor the night of the final.

But for the rest of his stay in Madrid, comfort and security's will have to tak  a back seat for this a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"Just to be there to be part of the atmosphere, to be at such a great event is just ….. I can't miss it, there is no way."
