Football: Former Phoenix striker David Williams joins Roy Krishna at India Super League club ATK

Former Phoenix striker David Williams will reunite with former teammate Roy Krishna in India after signing a two-year deal with ATK in the Indian Super League.

The Kolkata-based club confirmed the signing of Williams on Friday, 10 days after announcing Krishna would be taking his prodigious talents to India.

Williams was tipped to follow coach Mark Rudan to A-League expansion side, Western United, but will instead re-form a deadly attacking combo with Krishna in India.

The duo will provide a much-needed goal-scoring spark for ATK, who ended last season in sixth and scored just 18 times across 18 games.

Compare that to Krishna (19) and Williams (11), who combined for 30 goals between them last A-League season.

Krishna's efforts saw him take home the A-League's golden boot and Johnny Warren Medal.

"I am absolutely delighted that I will be able to play alongside my friend Roy Krishna. Hopefully, together as a team, we will be able to win the title and create memories," Williams said.

ATK have won the Indian Super League title twice, and coach Antonio Lopez Habas feels the signing will help his team win a third title.

"Williams' pace and technique will be valuable to us. He also brings variety to the squad since he can play on either side of the wings as well. His understanding with teammate Roy Krishna will be crucial for us."

The 2019-20 India season will begin on October 13, 2019, and conclude in March.
