Brooklyn Nets' Kiwi general manager Sean Marks is the talk of American sports, after signing two of the NBA's biggest-name free agents on Monday (NZT).

Star forward Kevin Durant has announced he's signing with the Nets, while guard Kyrie Irving will reportedly do the same - a massive coup for the franchise.

ESPN reports Durant will sign a deal worth US$164m (NZ$243m), while Irving would put pen to paper on a US$141m (NZ$209m) deal, both for four years.

Many expected the pair to sign elsewhere, but they've opted to commit their futures to the Nets.

On top of that, the Nets are expected to announce the signing of centre DeAndre Jordan to complete a trio of All-Star signings.

Former Tall Black Marks, who won an NBA title with the San Antonio Spurs in 2005, has received a heap of praise on social media for the signings.

The 43-year-old Aucklander became the Nets' GM in 2016 on a four-year deal, leaving his post as assistant GM with the Spurs.

At the time, the franchise faced a bleak future, after trading away several future draft picks for aging stars Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry, who never recaptured their best.

Marks has been credited with restoring the Nets to a playoff team last season.
