Cricket World Cup 2019: Blackcaps batsman Ross Taylor never wants to watch replay of England final

Blackcaps batsman Ross Taylor says he never wants to see a replay of New Zealand's heartbreaking Cricket World Cup final defeat to England earlier this month.

The showpiece event went to a 'super over', after both England and New Zealand scored 241 from 50 overs. The host team was ultimately declared the winners, due to their superior boundary count in the Lord's final.

After the final, Taylor took his family on holiday to Paris to get away from the limelight, but he still ran into some massive cricket fans during his time away.

Speaking to The Rock's Morning Rumble, Taylor said it had taken a while to get over the wild ride during the knockout stages.

"I don't want to watch the game, ever again," he said. "There were lots of emotions because the game had so many ebbs and flows - we were on top, then they were on top.

"For some guys, the result probably hasn't sunk in. I've come to terms with it, but it took a week.

"The family and I went to France, so it was nice to get away for a week, but we were outside the Eiffel Tower with the kids, and people were coming up and saying what a fantastic game it was.

"I couldn't get away from it. It would have been nice to say World Champions, but I'm proud of the team the way they went about it, and the support from the New Zealand public was amazing."

Taylor has played over 200 ODI games for the Blackcaps, and he had no clue about the rule which said tied games head to a 'super over.'

"I had no idea it went to a 'super over'. I walked up to the umpires to shake their hands, but they said it was super over.

"The amount of ODI cricket i've played, i've never played a 'super over' that usually for T20 cricket.

"If it rained for two days, it was going to be shared, so I was along those lines of thinking, but it wasn't meant to be."

Despite losing in the final, the team celebrated their achievement of reaching the final by playing Niel Diamond's 'Sweet Caroline' on a boombox in the famous Long Room in the Lord's Pavilion.

Taylor and some of the other players involved in the World Cup campaign will be off to Sri Lanka next month for two tests and three T20s, starting on August 14 at Galle International Stadium.
